Well here is our Thanksgiving day. It was lovely, I am thankful to have Dave's family enjoy the day with us. All the work was worth it! I had my Mom over the next day those pics are coming

Two part Thanksgiving day entry

Hi Everyone,

I am behind we had a great Thanksgiving I am going to a slide show of the things we bought before thanksgiving then the actual day. I am so tired I never realized how much work it is. Dave and myself started cooking at 10:00 a.m., the company arrived at 1:30......we did not eat until almost 4 p.m. because the dang 24 pound turkey took longer to cook than expected. All the food was great seeing family was wonderful. I had to do it again Friday for my mother and uncle....so to say the least I am cooked, and companied out! The big day pictures will be next.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday! I really wanted to post some pictures of all the things I got for thanksgiving but there are just not enough hours in the day. I am working a full day today until 4:30 then off to the grocery store for a few more items. Then home to organize everthing for tomorrow. I have to set the table, vacumm, wash the floors, clean the cat box, put fresh linens out in the bathroom, and oh well I just have a ton to do. Not too mention we will be up at the crack of dawn since Dave decided to buy a 24lb bird-for only 7 people mind you, plus a full size ham. There will be left overs until Christmas. Ok no more complaining :)

I started putting my Christmas decorations outs I could not resist, I just love decorating for Christmas. Have a safe and happy holiday!

I just had to share this I got in an email.  Glad I did not live back in the 1500's!  I'm having a wonderful day, My jeep crapped the bed this morning I lost the steering and almost hit a telephone pole but was able to turn the wheel using all my strength.  Luckily I had just left the house so I was able to get it back home.  It is pouring here and I still have stuff to buy...ahhhhhh  Anyway hope every is doing well check this out:

 

 

THE 1500'S
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all t he babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the s aying, Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water..
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying . It's raining cats and dogs.
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, Dirt poor. The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway. Hence the saying a thresh hold.
(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme, Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old..
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a si gn of wealth that a man could, bring home the bacon. They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat..
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid ou t on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a ..dead ringer..
And that's the truth...Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

A Cold Saturday Morning

BBBRRR  I am sitting on the couch this freezing cold Saturday morning bundled up in a comforter.  I do not know why I got up at 7 a.m. today and started watching infomercials.  What is it with those infomercials they suck you in like some kind of drug.  I almost bought the Susan Lucci fountain of youth in a jar and some overprice flat Iron hair thing.  Thank God I resisted picking up that phone!

Today we have shopping to do for Thanksgiving dinner we are cooking for Dave’s family.  I hope I have enough room in the fridge to put all this food, then again it is so fricken cold out I could just put the stuff in a cooler on the back porch, No Ice required.

Not much really happened with me this week, work was well just work.  Oh we did watch movies last night we saw the new one with Angelina Jolie (I cannot remember the name)but it was good.  Then we watched The Bucket list with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, Get the box of tissues out for this one…very good but sad too.

Now my cat is very spoiled and snotty too…. drinking out of a cat bowl is below her she must have her own Dixie cup full of water every morning.  Take a look:

The bad news is she has a brain tumor the size of a walnut in her head. Christmas nostalgia & the good Ole days

Hi There I am sitting here at work day daydreaming about Christmas time as a kid. I cannot help it all I have been hearing on the radio is Christmas ads, my email is being bombarded by sales, sales, sales. I wish I could go back in time for just one Christmas and be a kid again. Toys where simple back then. You actually had to use your imagination. I was surprised that I found pictures of some of my old favorite toys as a child as you will see below. What are some of your favorites that bring back good memories, please let me know in your comments.

Now I got a slinky every year and it was broken or in a tangle every year by Christmas after noon.

I longed for this Barbie camper for ever, my girlfriend got it first and I was so envious....I finally got one though!

Play-doh was always a good gift until it got all mucked up with fuzz, and hair and who know's what.....also it made your hands smell gross

And this!!!! One of my all time favorite gifts.....It was the Charlie's Angels hideway house. I had all 3 angels too, for some reason I always favored Jacklyn Smith (the Kelley doll) and was mean to the Kate Jackson doll (Sabrina doll).

I have so much stuff to do between now and Thanksgiving it is driving me mental. We are having Dave's family over to the new place for the first time for dinner. So We are cooking for 5 or 6 extra people, it may not seem like a lot but since I do not really entertain more than 1 or 2 people I have stuff to buy. Never thought about it before but I guess I need more than 1 serving spoon and fork. Well here is the list that I will have to get (this does not include the food:) more serving bowls, a platter for the turkey, gravy boat, gravy separator, brush for basting turkey, thermometer and holiday tablecloth with matching mats and napkins....oh yeah and napkin holders. Not too mention we do not have enough chairs for 7-8 people....hmmm?

The painting is still not done and you know what I do not care....LOL It will be done by spring time.

Dave wants to get a 20-22 lb turkey...I think he is mad. I say 14-16lb would be fine. I do not even like turkey that much, that is why I am buying a ham too. I figure I will make Caesar salad. For appetizers: a shrimp plate, a veggie plate along with pepperoni and cheese, nuts, olives, pickles, fruit....so they can pick at stuff.

Then for the main meal, Turkey, Ham, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, boiled onions, corn, peas, asparagus, broccoli, cranberry sauce and fresh rolls. I am making so many veggies because not every body likes them all so they can have a choice.

Boston creme pie and eclairs for dessert, I think his sister will bring her famous cheese cake. I hope I am not forgetting anything. I really just want it to be over with because I want to decorate for Christmas....hee hee

Be sure to refill the ice trays, we're going to have company after while.
Watch for the postman, I want to get this letter to Aunt Mary in the mail today.
Quit slamming the screen door when you are on your way out!
Be sure and pull the windows down when you leave, it looks like a shower is coming up.

Don't forget to wind the clock before you go to bed.
Wash your feet before you go to bed, they are nasty from playing outside all day barefooted.

Why can't you remember to roll up your pant legs? Getting them caught in the bicycle chain so many times is tearing them up.
You have torn the knees out of that pair of pants so many times there is nothing left to put a patch on.

Don't you go outside with your good school clothes on!
Go comb your hair; it looks like the rats have nested in it all night.
Be sure and pour the cream off the top of the milk when you open the new bottle.
Take that empty bottle to the store with you so you won't have to pay a deposit on another one.

Put a dish towel over the cake so the flies won't get on it.
Quit jumping on the floor! I have a cake in the oven and you are going to make it fall if you don't quit!
Let me know when the Fuller Brush man comes by, I need to get a few things from him.
You boys stay close by, the car may not start and I will need you to help push it off.

There's a dollar in my purse, get 5 gallons of gas when you go to town.
Open the back door and see if we can get a breeze through here, it is getting hot.

You can walk to the store; it won't hurt you to get some exercise.
Don't sit too close to the TV. It is hard on your eyes.

If you pull that stunt again, I am going to wear you out!

Thankful Thursday, CMA Awards and odds and ends

Well Is it already thankful Thursday? I guess it is. This week has flown by it seems. Did I get any painting done......well no, but I thought about it a lot if that counts. I actually got another crappy cold so I have been doing day-quil and nite-quil shot's like they are some kind of cool refreshing drink.

I am sorry I forgot to post a thank you to all our Veteran's but better late than never....so if you are a veteran I give you my sincere thanks!

On Monday I was so full of energy I worked then came home and did dishes, did the floors, put laundry away, washed more laundry. On Tuesday we got to leave work early at 1 p.m. to celebrate the retirement of our bookkeeper. Our boss/the owner brought us to this very nice restaurant that is on a golf course with gorgeous view of the Boston skyline. We where very high up on the top of the old Quincy Quarry's so it was very, very windy and cold that is where I think I got sick since I did not bring a coat and it was a walk to the car. We did not splurge for valet parking. Here are some pictures of the restaurant , the views and my co-workers:

I basically have felt like a pile of......well you get the idea since Tuesday, sore throat, cough etc but I feel a tad bit better today.

Last night as I lay on the couch feeling bad for myself I watched the CMA Awards I thought they where pretty good. My favorite performances where: Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, George Straight, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum (spelling??). I was totally not digging that dress Miley Cyrus was wearing I do not know why but she reminds me of a chipmunk...(all the teen girls are going to hate me now I just know it). Here are my favorite outfits from the show...

I am sorry if my colors and fonts keep changing but for some reason when ever I add a picture in windows live it reverts my font back to the original one. I have not figured out how to fix that yet.

I am getting a haircut after work finally I hope it comes out good and I don't look like a cabbage patch kid or something weird. Then after that home to wash that gray right out of my hair! I am so glad my Davey is coming home tomorrow I sure have missed him. My little monster kitty is great company but sometime's I think I look like a giant mouse that she must hunt at all times.

She is sweet though when she sleeps....LOL

Ok, ok I know this is a long entry so today I am thankful for:

-All the soldiers and veterans that served, fought and died for our country

-Only one more night of sleeping alone (even if I like the not hearing Dave snore) SHHHHH...

-The little gray fur face that wakes me up every morning with a pounce and then she puts her nose on my nose to be sure I am awake
